2012 so far

Wow, I can't believe 2012 is more than half way over! This year is flying by. Of course, having a baby can do that to you. Like I said before, this blog is mostly about keeping track of memories, no matter how big or small they may seem. So I guess I should catch up with this year so far and then I can start posting about current happenings . . .

The beginning of the year started out with my third trimester of carrying my precious baby boy, our first child.  While I was living it, I felt like it dragged by because I was so huge! I'm not kidding, I was humungo. Seriously, people commented on it all the time - even strangers at the grocery store. My little man would move around all the time and my stomach would be all shapes, especially when he stuck his butt in the air (at least that's what I imagined him doing). I was convinced there was an alien in my belly.

My husband called me "Pregosaur"

Not much happened during that time because I got tired of waddling around and had to sit down a lot. So when I wasn't working, I was usually sitting on the couch watching movies and stuffing my face with Oreos (my favorite while I was prego). Finally the day came when our little boy was born. And when I say finally, I mean FINALLY. He was five days late. Ugh.  ----- But totally worth the wait!!  I will write a separate post about his birth story later. For now, suffice it to say that I am totally in love with this little guy.

Welcome to the world Steven Jr!

In June, we went to the beach to see the eclipse with some friends and family. We even got special glasses so we could look right at it. Unfortunately, it was pretty cloudy so we didn't get to see a lot of it, but every once in a while the clouds would clear and we got a good look. It was a good time. I can't wait to do it again  . . . in like 10 years.

Oh yes, we are so cool in our eclipse glasses.

In July, I took the baby on his first beach trip (the trip to the beach for the eclipse doesn't count because we sat on the grass and didn't even go near the water). My mom went with me. I think Stevie loved it. He was cooing and smiling the whole time. He especially liked laying on the towel and watching the umbrellas flap in the breeze.  It is so fun to see the world through a baby's eyes; everything is new to him. He was so enthralled by all the activity and loved taking it all in.
So cute in his beach hat

That brings us to August. We are still making memories this month. The first would be Stevie reaching his first milestone of rolling over! Well Steven says he "tipped over" more than rolled over. I put Stevie down on his tummy in front of the TV and he pushed up on his arms to look up at it - he just kept pushing up until the weight of his big head finally pulled him around to his back. Haha, silly kid.
And then yesterday Steven and I took a trip to Santa Barbara while the kid spent the day at his grandparents' house. It was fun being baby free and acting like a newly married couple again. We went out to breakfast on the way there and then we went to the beach (and got beach tar all over our feet, ewww). I am so used to paying for parking at the beaches around here, that when we went to the beach in Santa Barbara and didn't have to pay I was so surprised! I kept telling Steven, "I can't believe we don't have to pay. We can just park? Just like that?" After that we went to the movies and saw The Expendables 2 (fun movie - cheesy, but fun) and our dinner consisted of popcorn, Icees, and a hot dog (romantic, I know). It was so nice to spend some alone time with my man.

I might have forgotten a thing or two for the year so far, but those are the things that stand out. I'm really looking forward to Fall and the holidays. My favorite time of the year.
